Kevin Ban, M.D., is the Executive Vice President and Global Chief Medical Officer for Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. After joining Walgreens as Chief Medical Officer in January 2020, he played an integral role in leading the company’s national pandemic response and defining its healthcare strategy. With over 25 years of clinical and administrative experience in the United States and abroad, Dr. Ban has deep experience in academic clinical medicine, population health and healthcare technology.
Dr. Ban trained at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency in Boston where he continued his career as an academic attending at Harvard Medical School. In the early part of his career, he worked on a joint venture between Harvard Medical International and the Tuscan government in Italy to standardize emergency medical care delivery and to establish Italy’s first pediatric trauma center. He brought key principles home from his experience abroad to Boston where he served as Chief Medical Officer within the BIDMC system focusing on population health management and clinical care delivery to drive improved outcomes. Later, he joined athenahealth leading and growing their population health technology and services across the country and later became their Chief Medical Officer.
He graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in theology and later completed his M.D. from Georgetown’s School of Medicine. Dr. Ban completed two years of general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
